No Country For ___ Men
musique concrete / improvisation / noise / drone / experimental / ambient
When I was a kid, I had one of those crappy mixtapes that you bought at travel stops and gas stations that is titled something trite like "Country's Got Heart" or some other nonsense.
But I listened to that tape frequently. So frequently, in fact, that it stopped working correctly. It would drag, warp, wobble, and be unable hold pitch. Even after it started doing this, I refused to get rid of it.
One day, my mom found me with the tape and a (mostly) broken cassette player in my bedroom. As I was listening to the tape, I was doing various thinks to the player: putting a finger on the motorized spoolers, popping one battery out and putting it back in quickly, even randomly smacking it to get all sorts of weird sounds out of it.
I did this for hours until my parents decided that it was annoying and they made it disappear. The contents of this release are my attempt to recreate what I did as a kid through digital means. The songs used are just a few of the ones contained on that very tape.
This release holds some special significance to me as I prepare to leave Oklahoma for the second time. It is a sonic representation on my fondness and contempt for this state that was my home for so many years.
