shhhhh
Where are you located?
Indianapolis, Indiana. Don't judge. Everybody has to live somewhere...
What is your artist's name?
Lime Bar
How long have you been writing music?
Ages and ages with a big gap. I started when MIDI was first introduced, in the mid-80s, making electronic music affordable. I released a few tracks via rec.music.industrial Mind/Body project. Then I graduated from university, got a career in software, and took 30 years off. During the pandemic, I started making music again.
What inspired you to start playing and making music?
I loved the electronic music explosion in the 80s and needed to try it myself.
How would you describe your style of music?
I move around to whatever is interesting at the moment. I recently created a collection of tracks that cut up blues and jazz over densely layered drums. Previously I got interested in generative ambient on modular synths and released an album of that material as well.
How is your personality reflected in your work?
I'm all over the place, honestly.
Describe your creative process when you write new music.
I dabble. When I find something that sparks interest, I then run with it.
What is the name of your latest releases?
Rephemera
What was the inspiration for that release?
Outside of music I am also intrigued by ephemera, texts, pamphlets, and sound bites that reflect the exigencies of modern life (at the time). This album resurrects some of that found blues and jazz in a cut up form and tries to give it new life -- phrenetic and sometimes discordant new life. Hence REphemera - because that is how we are all living today.
Can you tell us any "behind the scenes" stories about writing or producing this release?
The recording came together very quickly. I created the entire 11 tracks in a few days. Then a few weeks to mix and master for streaming, fretting over the sound. This is how it is sometimes... dabble, fret, and then launch!
What are you currently working on?
I am making an EP along similar lines but with a more 90s EDM/IDM sound.
