Romain Baret
progressive / jazz / rock
Through precise and narrative-driven writing, Romain Baret’s compositions intertwine seamlessly with improvisation, forming a continuously evolving whole, driven by energy and freedom. Infused with rock, jazz, and pop, the band's music is bold, taking risks, playing with suspense and striking resolutions in a resolutely expressionist approach.
Released in May 2014 on the Pince-Oreilles label, the first album, Split Moments, recorded as a trio in 2013, defines the group’s musical identity. It also fosters a powerful artistic encounter on three tracks with Éric Prost, a key saxophonist on the national scene. The album received praise from specialized press (Jazz Magazine, The Chill Jazz Corner, CultureJazz.fr…).
The second album, Naissance de l’horizon, released in January 2018, continues this musical journey. It brings together the core trio (Romain Baret – Michel Molines – Sébastien Necca) while expanding with the presence of Éric Prost (tenor saxophone) on seven tracks and Florent Briqué (trumpet and flugelhorn) on three tracks.
Romain Baret’s influences draw as much from jazz as from progressive music (King Crimson, Pink Floyd…). His distinctive rhythmic explorations are heavily inspired by key figures of the contemporary jazz scene, such as Ari Hoenig and Dan Weiss, as well as composers like Marc Ducret, Stéphane Huchard, Laurent Dehors, and Tigran Hamasyan.
